Generating a Pipeline

How to generate a pipeline

Select one or more pipeline paths which do not have any pipelines on them and select Generate pipeline . Click to expand

The dialog Generate Pipeline appears.

Select the name of a pipe specification (upper left list) and then the appropriate diameter, and all further existing characteristics.

In the Selected parts section, the parts included in the selected pipe specification are displayed.

If a default pipe specification is set (in Plant Design Administrator or in the Smap3D Piping Pipe specifications options) it is always pre-selected in the Generate Pipeline dialog. To select another pipe specification you should select Reset selection.

If Use default pipe spec automatically is set, the Generate Pipeline dialog does not appear. Pipeline is generated automatically using the default pipe specification.

Divided divides pipes (straight and bent pipes separately). Click to expand

Use favorites skips the prospective dialog for selecting non-unique fittings, uses favorites automatically.

Pipeline generated with this option active then the option will be set as default while editing the pipeline in the future.

No flanges on connected ends makes Piping to not place a flange automatically (if available for the respective pipe specification and parameters) on the pipeline path ends connected to some 3D geometry.

Select OK to launch the automatic process.

If there are non-unique fittings in the pipe specification (and Use favorites was not activated before), a selection dialog appears. There you should select one component from each group.
Fittings set as Favorite in the pipe specification are always pre-selected.

If you select Use favorites here, the option will be set as default while editing the respective pipeline in the future.

A progress bar shows which step is actually in progress (e.g. inserting bends, generating pipes etc.) and it is also possible to abort the process by selecting Stop.

The complete generated pipeline including all pipes, bends, tees and flanges, and so on, as defined in the pipe specification is the result.

When Cut off pipes after reaching maximum length and place part automatically is active, a defined Cutoff fitting may be embedded.

Generate a detailed engineering from a basic engineering

If we use 3D sketch for creating a basic engineering we can generate a detailed engineering by Switch to detailed engineering.

This function is located in a context menu of the basic engineering in Piping tree view.

If Switch to detail engineering after finish route is checked in Plant Design Administrator, the basic engineering will be automatically recalculated into a pipeline with the desired pipe specification.

Restrictions for automatic placing

To place a bend; the corners on the pipeline paths must have the exact angle of 174.375; 168.75; 165; 157.5; 150; 135; 120; 105; 93; 90 or 87 degrees.

To place a tee, reduced tee or a collar; the tee joints of the pipeline paths must be exactly right-angled (90 degree) to each other.

To place a tee 11, tee 22, tee 45, tee 85, tee 87, tee 90 or tee 11 reduced, tee 22 reduced, tee 45 reduced, tee 85 reduced, tee 87 reduced, tee 90 reduced the pipeline paths must be connected with an angle of 11 1/4°; 22 1/2°; 45°; 85°; 87° or 90° degrees, respectively.
