Placing Concentric Reducers

Smap3D Piping provides some automations for placing components specified in pipe specification as concentric reducers.

In addition to simple placing, the application also recalculates the respective segments of pipeline (if necessary) to fit with the newly placed fittings.

Placing concentric reducers using commands described below requires to have prepared points specifying the reducer's position on target pipeline path.

The required points are those connecting two collinear line segments.

Such a connection point is created automatically e.g. in case a straight path is drawn in two steps (two line segments in a row).

A connection point can be also added in edit mode of 3d sketch or with Edit Route to a straight segment using the function Split line.

After the splitting, it might be necessary to correct a missing constraint (coaxial or parallel) on the new 3D line.

Placing single concentric reducer

Place one concentric reducer serves typically to solve the situations when some pipeline is generated using a single pipe specification and diameter, but there is a requirement to divide the pipeline into two (connected) parts with different diameters or even different sort (flanged, butt-welded, etc.).

The command can be also used to place a concentric reducer to a connection point that connects two pipeline paths with already generated pipelines.

How to place a concentric reducer

Select the pipeline path of the pipeline you want to place a concentric reducer to and run Place one concentric reducer . Click to expand

When working in the Assembly environment Place one concentric reducer switches to the related environment automatically.

The selected pipeline must be generated using a pipe specification.

Then select the required connection point (a point symbol between two lines) where the reducer should be placed.

This point then divides the pipeline path into two parts.

In the next dialog, select the part of the pipeline which is about to be re-generated with new diameter, pipe specification, etc. (the other part is kept unchanged).

The selected part of the pipeline (pipeline path) is highlighted.

In the Pipe specification for modified part of pipeline dialog, relevant pipe specifications and sizes are available (i.e. those which contain concentric reducers which fit the original pipe specification and size).

Select the desired pipe specification, size and the other parameters for the modified part of the pipeline.

Another dialog may appear in the following conditions:

The appropriate concentric reducer is then placed, and the selected part of the pipeline is edited automatically.

Placing concentric reducer twice

Place concentric reducer twice is intended mainly for the situations when some part (between two specified points) of an existing (generated) pipeline should have changed its diameter.

How to place a concentric reducer twice

Select the pipeline path of the pipeline you want to place a concentric reducer to and run Place concentric reducer twice .

When working in the Assembly environment Place concentric reducer twice switches to the related environment automatically.

The selected pipeline must be generated using a pipe specification.

Then select two connection points (a point symbol between two lines) enclosing the part of the pipeline which should be edited.

These points also define where the concentric reducer will be placed.

The both selected connection points must be located on the same pipeline path.

In the Pipe specification for modified part of pipeline dialog, relevant pipe specifications and sizes are available (i.e. those which contain concentric reducers which fit the original pipe specification and size).

Select the desired pipe specification, size, and the other parameters for the modified part of the pipeline.

Another dialogs may appear in the following conditions:

Two occurrences of the appropriate concentric reducer are placed then, and the part of the pipeline between them is edited automatically.
